NFL Preseason: Colts @ Packers

The Indianapolis Colts visit the Green Bay Packers in a nationally televised NFL exhibition game Thursday at the legendary Lambeau Field (8 pm ET, ESPN).

NFL Lines at betED.com have Green Bay as a 3.5-point favorite while the over/under total is at 44.5.

Indianapolis and Green Bay have both won two of the past four head-to-head matchups, and both have covered the point spread twice. The Colts and Packers last met Oct. 19, 2008, when Green Bay upset Indianapolis 34-14 as a 1-point home underdog. The score went over the total of 46.5.

The Colts have dropped both of their first two NFL Preseason games, losing their opener 37-17 against the visiting San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 15, and coming out on the wrong end of a 34-21 decision against the Buffalo Bills last Thursday at the Rogers Center in Toronto.

The Packers lost their exhibition season opener 27-24 against the visiting Cleveland Browns on Aug. 14, but then rebounded with a 27-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks last Saturday at Qwest Field.

In 2009, Indianapolis improved on its 12–4 record in 2008 to finish 14-2 SU and 10-6 ATS, winning its sixth AFC South division championship in the past seven years. The Colts wrapped up the No. 1 playoff seed in the AFC, beat the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round and the New York Jets in the AFC Championship game, but lost 31-17 to the underdog New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV.

The Packers finished with an 11–5 SU and 11-4-1 ATS record, second in the NFC North, but lost in the wild card round of the playoffs to the Arizona Cardinals.

Super Bowl Line: Indianapolis Colts (-215) (-5)(-110) Total: 56.5

First and foremost, this is the match-up that everyone should have expected. The New Orleans Saints and the Indianapolis Colts were the last two undefeated teams, the #1 seeds in their respective conferences, with two of the best offenses in the NFL led by two of the best quarterbacks, but the Saints are definitely the underdog headed into Sunday’s game.

The Colts have the NFL’s MVP, but maybe Drew Brees wasn’t getting a fair shake in that race either. He threw one more touchdown than Peyton while tossing five fewer interceptions and also completing a higher percentage of his passes. Both players had amazing years, and maybe Manning was the most deserving, but that guy under center for the Saints isn’t bad either.

53% of the public bet is with the favored Colts, and over the last few days the line has gone from 5.5-6 points in favor of the Colts to -4.5 early Friday morning. The money line bet is around 58% for the underdog Saints. Neither team has been an underdog yet this season if you discount Week 17’s starter-free performances.

While the Saints lost just three games this season (only 2 in which starters played throughout), the Colts lost just two (and didn’t lose a single game in which the starters played from start to finish). Both of these teams were undefeated headed into Week 13. The Colts went to 14-0 before losing their final two regular season games; the Saints were 13-0 before dropping 3 straight to end the regular season.

The Saints were just 8-8 ATS during the regular season while Indianapolis was 10-5-1. The Saints are 1-1 ATS this post-season while Indy is 2-0. In the numbers game, the Saints rule the flashy areas; yards gained, points scored, time of possession – while the Colts pull ahead in other areas like red-zone, penalties, and yards allowed. This is truly a battle of the NFL’s two best teams.

Score a ton of Super Bowl TD Props

When you have two high-powered offenses clashing in the Super Bowl, you know there’s going to be a ton of touchdowns.

And betED.com has tons – and tons – of Prop Bets for Super Bowl XLIV on Sunday, which pits the AFC champion Indianapolis Colts against the NFC champion New Orleans Saints, including Touchdown Props.

Some of the props include what will be the shortest TD in the game, with an over/under of 1.5 yards. The over pays +120 while the Under is currently at -160 in Super Bowl Props at betED.com.

Or bettors can wager on what will be the shortest rushing touchdown on Sunday, with same over/under of 1.5 yards. The Over is +110 and the Under is -150.

How about the actual number of touchdowns? The over/under is 7, with the Over at +125 and the Under at -165.

One TD prop that always proves popular is what type of TD will be the first scored: Passing, -200, or Any Other TD, +160.

Super Bowl bettors can also make a play on how many yards long the first touchdown will be, with 1 to 7 yards the favorite at +120, followed by 8 to 15 (+160) and 16 to 25 (+300).

Both teams had little trouble getting TDs in their respective conference championship games, as both games went over the total.

The Saints defeated Minnesota Vikings 31-28 in overtime as a 4-point favorite in the NFC Championship Game, with the scoring eclipsing the total of 54. Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw three TD passes.

Colts pivot Peyton Manning also had three touchdown tosses as the Colts beat the New York Jets 30-17 as a 7.5-point favorite in the AFC Championship Game.

Super Bowl Odds: Indianapolis Colts (-5) (Over/Under 56.5)

The Indianapolis Colts are favored by 5 over the New Orleans Saints in this season’s Super Bowl, so nothing new for the Colts. Indy is also favored by bettors, and once again, not much is new. Indy was 12-5-1 ATS this season, making the popular choice the right choice more than 66% of the time. The Colts were 7-1 ATS away from home, and I almost forgot to mention, the Colts won every game that Peyton Manning played every snap. Their only two losses, back-ups played integral roles, and Peyton watched from the sidelines.

The Colts started the season 14-0, finding ways to win in tight games, and dominating some good teams along the way, but one thing stayed consistent, they won football games. 7 of their 14 regular season wins were by four points or fewer, but they always won.

Week 16 saw the Colts up in the 3rd quarter against the Jets, with a possible undefeated season on the line, yet Peyton came out, Curtis Painter went in, and history wouldn’t re-write itself as the Jets beat Indy 29-15.

Week 17 saw even less of Peyton and his starting cast and the score reflected that, as the Colts were destroyed by the Buffalo Bills 30-7, having many claim that maybe the Colts had lost their mojo.

Well, if they lost anything, it was back when they met the Ravens in the 2nd week of the playoffs. Indy dominated the elite rushing attack of the Ravens, and won easily 20-3. Against the same Jets team they lost to in Week 16, the Colts fell behind early only to turn it on in the 2nd half and win running away, 30-17. Once again, they used their stout run defense to shut down the league’s best rushing attack.

The Colts struggled against elite offenses this season, winning two very close games against Houston and sneaking one out 35-34 against the New England Patriots back in November. However, this season, Peyton has yet to lose a game in which he’s played every snap.

Super Bowl Preview: New Orleans Saints

Super Bowl Betting Odds: New Orleans Saints (+5) (Over/Under 56.5)

The New Orleans Saints are underdogs in the Super Bowl. That marks the first time they this season in which they will be getting points, if you don’t count Week 17 in which they sat all their starters, of course. New Orleans won each of their first 13 games before promising not to rest starters if an undefeated season was on the line. In the end, that didn’t matter, as the Dallas Cowboys were the first team to beat the Saints this season, in week 14.

Before that, the Saints seemingly handled all of their top-rated opponents. Dominating wins over the Philadelphia Eagles (48-22), the New York Jets (24-10), the New York Giants (48-27), and the New England Patriots (38-17) made them the most respected team in the NFL heading into the back end of the regular season.

From that game on it was two close wins over non-playoff teams like the Washington Redskins (in an amazing comeback) and the Atlanta Falcons, and three straight losses to end the season, making many question the Saints’ confidence heading into the playoffs.

But the questions were answered in Week 2 of the playoffs when the Saints Defense came in and shut down one of the best post season quarterbacks of all time, Kurt Warner, as the Saints dominated the Arizona Cardinals 45-14.

Last week’s playoff win over the Vikings wasn’t quite as easy – in fact, the Vikings outplayed the Saints throughout, but New Orleans resilience and turnover causing defense kept New Orleans in the game, and sent the game into overtime. From there, the Saints won the toss and kicked a field goal to win it short after that.

The Saints started the season 13-0 SU but finished 13-3. They were 8-8 ATS despite starting 6-0 against the spread. They were 4-4 ATS away from New Orleans, 7-1 straight up. They ranked 1st in total yards and 1st in points scored this season.

QBs at center of Super Bowl Prop Bets

Of all the spotlights that will shine on Super Bowl XLIV, the brightest might be on the two quarterbacks: NFL MVP Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts and Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints.

betED.com has a ton of great Super Bowl Prop Bets heading into Sunday’s showdown (6:25 pm ET, CBS) and, not coincidentally, many of them center around the two pivots.

And appropriately, one of the wagers betED.com is taking has to so with what will happen for the respective quarterbacks first: a TD pass or interception.

For Brees, throwing a touchdown is at -240 and getting picked off is +200. For Manning, it’s -300 and +250, respectively.

In the same vein is: What will Brees’ first pass result in – a completion (-250), an incompletion (+175), or an interception (+1100). The odds are the same for Manning in this category.

How many total passing yards the QBs rack up is always a popular prop. The over/under for Brees is 284.5 yards (Over, -115; Under, -115), while for Manning it’s 308 yards (Over, -110; Under, +120).

And the over/under for pass completions by either of two quarterbacks is 24.5 for Brees (over, -135; Under, +105) and 25 for Manning (Over, -130; Under, +100).

For pass attempts, the over/under is 36 for Brees (Over, -135; Under, +105) while for Manning it’s 36.5 (Over, -135; Under, +105).

And the fact that neither quarterback is particularly well know for his running ability is reflected in the over/under for rushing attempts by either QB: 1.5. The O/U for Brees is +120/-150 and for Manning it’s +135/-165.

Super Bowl Line Movement

Super Bowl XLIV (Sunday, Feb. 7, 6:25 pm ET, CBS)

The Super Bowl Betting Line opened at the Indianapolis Colts by 3.5 or 4 over the New Orleans Saints, then jumped to 5.5 and is now at 6 at betED.com.

All this line movement makes some sense for a couple reasons. First of all, the public has to like a Colts team that didn’t once lose a game in which they tried to win. That’s right, in both their losses this season, starters sat during key pieces of the game, like the 2nd half against New York and most of the entire game against Buffalo. When you add that with the way they’ve beaten up and covered against underdogs in both playoff games, you have yourself a public favorite.

The word on the street is that Sharp bets came in on the Colts as well, and that makes the Colts an overwhelming favorite, hence the quick move to 5.5 already. The Colts were also a great bet this season, going 10-5-1 ATS during the regular season, and ballooning that already solid record to 12-5-1 counting the playoffs.

The Colts were especially good on the road, not losing until Week 17, and shutting down some tough rushing attacks in the post season.

But the Saints have had some success of their own, and a week as the underdog might sit very well with them. The Saints were 8-8 ATS this season despite going 13-3 SU. They didn’t play all that well last week, and only lasted because of their ability to find turnovers. But the Saints were never an underdog this season (if you don’t count Week 17 where they sat their starters), the Super Bowl will be their first.

But any time the line was close, they dominated, going 6-1 ATS when they were favored by a touchdown or less. Their only ATS loss in that scenario, last week against Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.

This should be a great one!

AFC Championship: New York Jets at Indianapolis Colts

The New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts clash Sunday in the AFC Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium (3 pm ET, CBS).

betED.com NFL Playoff Odds have the Colts as an 7.5-point favorite and the over/under total at 39.5.

Straight-up, the Colts have the edge over the past 10 meetings, going 6-4 SU, but the Jets have covered the point spread six times in those matchups.

Football Betting fans know all about the team’s one meeting this season: The Jets beat the Colts 29-15 in Indianapolis, a win New York needed to make it into the NFL Playoffs. The Colts, undefeated at the time, rested many starters, and sat NFL MVP Peyton Manning at the beginning of the second half, with the Colts leading 15-10.

Last Sunday, the upstart Jets upset the San Diego Chargers 17-14 as an 8.5-point underdog in their Divisional Round matchup. The score went under the total of 43.

Shonn Greene rushed for 128 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries for the Jets in that win, while Mark Sanchez passed for 100 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

And Manning threw a pair of TDs to pace the Colts to a 20-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens in their Divisional Round tilt. The Colts covered as 6.5-point home favorites and the score went under the total of 44.

New York is 9-7 SU and ATS. Indianapolis is 14-2 SU and 10-6 ATS.

The Jets are a very impressive 5-0 SU in their past five games on the road.

Indianapolis is 14-1 SU in its last 15 games at home.

NFL Playoffs: Baltimore at Indianapolis

The Baltimore Ravens visit the Indianapolis Colts for an NFL Divisional Playoffs matchup Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium (8:15 pm ET, CBS).

NFL Betting at betED.com has the Colts as -270, 6-point favorites and the over/under total at 44.

Indianapolis has dominated Baltimore head-to-head, going 8-2 SU over the past 10 meetings. The Colts have covered the spread in six of those games.

The teams met once this season. Indy narrowly beat Baltimore 17-15 on Nov. 22, barely covering as 1.5-point road favorites. The score went under the total of 44.5. The last time the teams squared off in Indianapolis was Oct. 12 last season, a 31-3 Colts win as 4-point favorites.

On Wild Card Weekend, the Ravens crushed Tom Brady and the New England, winning 33-14 as a 4-point underdog last Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The score went over the over/under total of 44.

Ray Rice rushed for 159 yards with two touchdowns on 22 carries for Baltimore, and Willis McGahee rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries in the win.

The Colts had a bye last weekend. In their last game, they lost to the Buffalo Bills 30-7 as an 8-point underdog in Week 17. The score went over the total of 32.

Peyton Manning passed for 95 yards with an interception in limited duty for Indianapolis and Dallas Clark had seven receptions for 52 yards.

Baltimore was 9-7 SU and 8-7-1 ATS this season and Indianapolis had the best record in the NFL, at 14-2 SU and 10-6 ATS.

The total has gone under in seven of the past eight meetings in Indianapolis, and in six of the past seven meetings overall.

Colts shoot for 14-0 against Jaguars

The Indianapolis Colts continue their quest for a perfect season when they visit the Jacksonville Jaguars in a battle of AFC south rivals Thursday (8:20 pm ET, NFL Network).

The Colts are a -160 moneyline, 3-point favorite and the over/under is 43 in NFL Lines at betED.com.

Indianapolis has been solid against the Jaguars over the past 10 meetings – at least straight-up. Against the spread, however, the Colts are just 3-7 over the past 10 head-to-head.

The division rivals last squared off on Sept. 13 this season, when Indy edged the Jags 14-12, failing to cover as 6-point home favorites. The score went well below the total of 45.

The teams last met in Jacksonville on Dec. 18 last season, a 31-24 Colts win as 5.5-point road favorites.

The total has gone over in six of the past eight meetings in Jacksonville.

Last week, the Colts defeated the Denver Broncos 28-16 as a 6.5-point favorite, with the score going over the total of 43.5. Peyton Manning passed for 220 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions for the Colts.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, lost to the Miami Dolphins 14-10 as a 2-point favorite. The score fell under the over/under total of 43. David Garrard threw for 139 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions for Jacksonville.

Indianapolis is 13-0 SU and 9-4 ATS and has won 13 straight games. Jacksonville is 7-6 SU and 5-8 ATS.

Indianapolis is 5-0 SU and ATS in its past five on the road. Jacksonville is 5-1 SU in its last six games at home.
