NFL Week 14: Sunday’s Big Games

Posted on 12/10/2009 Posted by Jack MacDonald

Here’s a preview of two big NFL games on Sunday, with NFL Betting Odds at BetED.com highlighted.

Denver Broncos (+7) @ Indianapolis Colts (-7)

(12/13/09 1:00 pm ET, CBS)

I guess I love this game because I think it’s one of the best chances the Colts have at losing outright, without sitting their starters. The Colts are 12-0 after 13 weeks, and that’s amazing all by itself. The thought that they will likely sit their starters even if they’re undefeated kind of irks me, but I’m not sure it will come to that. The Broncos have been great as big dogs all year. They’ve played very well when nobody expects them to win, and I think it’s part of the team’s personality. Five of their 8 wins came as underdogs. Denver is 4-2 SU on the road.

Half of the Colts’ wins have been by four points or less, including four of their last six. Sixty-five per cent of the public like the Colts to cover.

Cincinnati Bengals (+6.5) @ Minnesota Vikings (-6.5)

(12/13/09 1:00 pm ET, FOX)

It’s still hard for me to believe that the Bengals can’t get any credit. This is a Cincinnati team that beat the Ravens and Steelers two times each. They are 9-3 on the season and have given up just 15.6 points per game. They are 4-1 on the road, 3-2 ATS, and have dominated their NFC opponents this year, beating Green Bay, killing Chicago, and handling the Lions with ease last week.

They’ve lost just once in their last 5 games, and while they might not have a heap of sexy wins, they’ve proven they can get up early and pound out a win, stay close and run a two minute drill late to squeak out victory, and just win outright. Minnesota is good, but they’ve had their troubles with solid run defenses, and passing attacks that can move the ball down field. Sixty-three per cent of the public likes the Vikings. The Vikings are 2-7 ATS against their last 9 opponents with winning records.
