Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin square off in the main event at UFC 115 at General Motors Place in Vancouver on Saturday (10 pm ET, Pay Per View).
Franklin is a -150 moneyline favorite in MMA Betting at betED.com, while Liddell is a +115 underdog.
Both veteran fighters lost their last UFC bouts. Liddell (21-7 MMA, 16-6 UFC) suffered a first-round loss by TKO to Mauricio Rua in his last fight at UFC 97, while Franklin (25-5 MMA, 12-4 UFC) was knocked out by Vitor Belfort in the first round of UFC 103.
The Light Heavyweight bout features two fighters with much respect for each other, and who possess similar strengths, but who each have their own way of using those strengths.
First we will look at their ability to fight on the ground. These fighters aren’t really known for their ground game, but they are both competent in using it when necessary. Chuck Liddell is probably most known for using the ground game out of the two. During the late parts of matches he often will go for the takedown to put away his opponent. He may have a slight advantage between the two if the fight goes to the mat.
Both of these fighters really try to use their striking abilities whenever they fight. Liddell is known for his strategy of inflicting pain in his opponent. He has no secrets and tries to hurt them to make them give up.
Liddell was a much more powerful fighter in the past, but he is still serviceable in using his counter fighting skills in an effective manner. It will be of the utmost importance for him to use these counter-attacks if he has any hopes to take this fight away from Rich Franklin.
Rich Franklin is likewise always ready to leave the fight up to who is the better striker. One of his strengths is his preparation. He really studies up on his opponent and makes a game plan. He always sticks to his wits and his strategies in order to mentally and physically take his opponents down. This helps him from getting stuck in ineffective strategies during the fight.
