A’s host White Sox for 3-game series

The Oakland Athletics will try for their third-straight win when they open a three-game set against the Chicago White Sox at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Friday (10:05 pm ET, FOX).

The A’s are a -140 moneyline, 1.5-point (+155) favorite and the over/under total is 7 in MLB Betting at betED.com.

Lakers look to sweep Jazz

What was expected to be a hard-fought battle in the NBA Playoffs could end up being a short series.

The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers can sweep the Utah Jazz and advance to the Western Conference Final when they visit the Jazz at Energy Solutions Arena for Game 4 in Salt Lake City Monday (10:35 pm ET, TNT).

The NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 round opens with the No. 1 seed Syracuse Orange battling the No. 5 Butler Bulldogs in a West region matchup on Thursday (7:05 pm ET, CBS).

The Orange are a 7-point favorite and the over/under total is at 138.5 in NCAA Tournament Betting at betED.com.

The schools have not met on the basketball court since Syracuse edged Butler 66-65 as 2-point favorites in the 2002 NCAA Tournament.

In the second round of the Big Dance on Saturday, the Bulldogs beat the upstart Murray State Racers 54-52 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. Butler failed to cash as a 4-point favorite and the score went under the 131.5-point total.

The Orange beat the Gonzaga Bulldogs 87-65 in their second-round matchup on Sunday. Syracuse covered as a 6.5-point favorite and the score went over the over/under total of 147.5.

Butler is 30-4 straight up and 14-20 against the point spread. Syracuse is 30-4 straight up and 20-9 against the spread.

Butler is 5-0 SU in its last five games, and the total has gone under in five of the Bulldogs’ past seven.

Old foes Celtics, Lakers battle in LA

It’s a rematch of the 2008 NBA Finals as the Boston Celtics take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday at the Staples Center (10:30 pm ET, TNT).

Los Angeles is a -155, 3-point favorite and the over/under is 188.5 in NBA Betting at betED.com.

The teams have split the past 10 straight up, each winning five, but the Celtics have the edge against the spread at 7-2-1 ATS.

Boston is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings in Los Angeles.

This is the second meeting of the season. The Lakers edged the Celtics 90-89 on Jan. 31. The Lakers pushed as 1-point road favorites. The score went under the total of 195.

In Boston’s last game on Tuesday, Paul Pierce and Rasheed Wallace each scored 17 points each to pace the Celtics past the Sacramento Kings 95-92. Boston couldn’t cover as 6-point road favorites and the score went under the 198.5-point total.

The No. 23 Virginia Tech Hokies visit the East Carolina Pirates in Thursday night NCAA College Football action (7:30 pm ET, ESPN).

The Hokies are 13-point favorites and the over/under is 51.5 in Football Betting Lines at betED.com.

The East Carolina Pirates have shown an ability to run the ball against just about everyone. Over their last 5 games, they have out-rushed four of their last five opponents, going 4-1 during that stretch, 3-2 ATS. The Pirates are 5-3 on the season, just like the Hokies.

The Hokies are 3-5 TS so far this season, struggling against opposing rushing attacks. Looking at the numbers, in each of their 3 losses on the season, the Hokies have been out-rushed. In their five losses against the spread, they’ve been out-rushed four times. Their ability to run and stop the run plays a huge roll in Virginia Tech’s success.
